Studio History and Mission
“In 1995 my early vision of having a studio where I could work while having visitors be able to watch glass blowing live was realized!" Glenn Ziemke
By establishing our roots on one of Vermont’s busiest tourist corridors, we opened a window for the public to witness the alchemy of fire, breath, and gravity in real-time. For twenty-eight years, Ziemke Glassblowing Studio served as a centerpiece for local craft, turning molten Silica sand into art while inviting visitors to observe the process.
Following a brief hiatus, 2026 marks the beginning of our second chapter. Reopening in partnership with Brian Rospond and Drew Montesano, we are honored to continue this journey. Our mission remains rooted in the belief that glassblowing is a living tradition that thrives when shared. We are dedicated to preserving the ancient techniques that have defined this craft for millennia while fostering a new era of creativity and public demonstration. Together, we invite you to step into the heat of the Hot Shop and witness the timeless artistry that continues to shape our studio’s future.
Glass is a contradiction—it is fragile yet strong, structural yet completely fluid. Our mission is to explore those contradictions to create contemporary pieces that transform spaces. We believe objects should provoke thought and catch the light in unexpected ways. Through bold color choices and innovative forms, we strive to bring the mesmerizing beauty of molten glass into the modern home.
We believe that the objects you interact with every day should bring you joy. Our mission is simple: to create beautiful, functional, hand-blown glass that elevates the ordinary moments of your daily routine. From a glass of wine or beer with good friends, to the centerpiece on your dinner table, everything we make is crafted by hand. We’re here to demystify the magic of glassblowing and share the warmth of the hot shop with our community.
Our Mission: Honoring the Element, Perfecting the Craft
At Mt. Mansfield Glass Studio, we dance with fire to turn raw sand into striking, enduring art. Our mission is to keep the ancient, time-honored tradition of glassblowing alive while pushing the boundaries of what the medium can do. Every piece that leaves our hot shop is born from 2,100°F heat, shaped by human breath, and crafted with a deep respect for the artisans who came before us. We don't just make glass—we capture a moment of fluid motion and freeze it in time.

The art of glassblowing is a journey that spans over two thousand years, evolving from ancient techniques into the contemporary craft we practice today. To truly appreciate the molten medium, it helps to understand its origins—from the first breath through a blowpipe to the sophisticated techniques used in modern hot shops. This video offers a fascinating look at the history of glass, showcasing the enduring magic of the furnace and the innovative spirit of the artisans who have shaped this fluid material through the ages.
